A Stellar Dual-Function TV Cabinet & Guest Renovations

The second act to our Tāwharanui Peninsula project, this luxury home saw a stellar TV unit, wardrobe, and bathroom vanity by BoxMakers. Coming in the same vein of dark yet graceful midnight-themed cabinetry, this mysterious living room unit offers more than what meets the eye…

    A Multi-Use TV Cabinet

Brooding silently at the end of a decadently spacious lounge, this cool and collected TV cabinet holds a few more secrets than it might seem. Clad in the armour of night, this bespoke unit effortlessly flaunts StyleLite’s Carbon series in TruMatte – a hypnotic black teeming with thick atmosphere. The thick outer panels emphasise its strong, silent nature while also limiting glare for the TV inside. Below, a subtle triplet of cubbies allow for convenient media storage.

The cabinet doors are composed of a modern arrangement of vertical slats. Plytech supplied their Maestro Latt series, a premium panel which we selected in Pepper Oak on Black – an airy timber reprieve with a contrasting dark underlay for definition and effect. The two-tiered rail allows the entire until to be concealed, but the real mystery isn’t the panels themselves – it’s what behind them…

    A Hidden Gem

Sliding over the door, the slats reveal a full kitchenette, complete with a sink, splashback, and mini-fridge. Needless to say, yes, it came in black. Featuring Silestone’s Night Tebas18, the benchtop is a captivating star-specked spacescape, whose details are only observable under close scrutiny.

Shifting through the deepness of space is the splashback, which features undulating tones of wavelike stone and a pattern evocative of a gas giant’s stormy shell. With the same black matte panels and glossy onyx handles, this mesmerising midnight enigma offers galactic levels of convenience and storage, especially with Häfele’s drawer systems. It even has a local ice giant (a mini fridge).

    Smart and Functional Wardrobe

The guest bedroom also saw a blacked-out addition in the form of a wardrobe. With smooth sliding doors, accommodating cubbies, and ample hanger space, this wardrobe is perfect for handling guest storage. Enko was our choice for the drawers here as their Slimbox system was perfect for handling large capacities with smooth operation.

    Modernity in a Natural Bathroom

Elsewhere, the guest bathroom features a modern natural aesthetic. To deliver definition against its light wooden tones, BoxMakers installed a bathroom vanity of the same black scheme with a few key differences: the face panels reintroduced Dezignatek’s fluted design – Prague series, while the basin resembled the hollowed-out half of a meteorite. Its raw, natural curves pair perfectly with the bathroom’s natural aesthetic, while the floating vanity adds a touch of modernity.

With a smartly disguised kitchen and TV space, large wardrobes, and modern vanities, this project is out of this world. Featuring premium materials fit for its luxury location, this multi-faceted BoxMakers renovation delivered functional upgrades across the guest suite, thoroughly dripping with atmosphere. Also, they’re incredibly cool.

  • Gaming & Karaoke with a Full-Height TV Cabinet

Gaming & Karaoke with a Full-Height TV Cabinet

For this recently bought Glenfield house, the owner conducted a thorough home renovation. Having finished a beautiful modern kitchen for this family, our work also extended to a custom TV cabinet and a bathroom vanity, which combined to firmly cement this home as a full modern package.

    A Modern Replacement

Coming with the original home, the owner’s living space inherited an old fireplace. As they wished to opt for indoor heating, this fixture would have served as nothing more than a decorative relic. In place of it, BoxMakers were called upon to deliver a floor to ceiling TV cabinet, with a broad enough space to accommodate TVs up to 75”.

Our precision cut cabinetry used a 16mm MDF substrate with a finish that came in Bleached Maple Woodgrain by Prime Panels. This mirrored the look of the brand-new kitchen while also fitting perfectly with the hardwood floor. As far as storage is concerned, the cabinet offers four large shelves with backlit LEDs, dual vertical cabinets with ample shelving, and bottom drawers featuring Häfele’s runner systems.

    Built With Purpose

We carefully cut the wall-facing corner t to accommodate the room’s crown moulding, ensuring a seamless fit and perfectly integrating it with the living room. We also integrated numerous power points, tailoring towards the family’s uses. In addition to enjoying shows on a very large TV, the household are also big fans of gaming and karaoke. These power outlets allow for convenient powering of consoles and accessories while being excellent at hiding cables.

    A New Vanity

Downstairs saw a significant structural makeover, and BoxMakers’ role was to deliver a new laundry vanity to provide additional storage and a convenient basin. It features the same Calacatta Bianco countertop as the kitchen, partnered with a new cabinet finish of white melamine, yet complementing it just as well. We chose Mardeco’s Arezzo series for the handles, a rounded rectangular bar handle in black. This quaint little corner vanity adds cohesion and function to the new ground floor.

  • An Immersive Full-Wall Entertainment Unit

    An Immersive Full-Wall Entertainment Unit

While broadcast television may be on its way out, your TV, and where you watch it, is more relevant than ever. With an abundance of shows to watch and games to play, nothing beats entertainment on the biggest screen in the home. The owners of this new residence are keenly aware of this fact and sought to make their multimedia room the best it could be, calling upon BoxMakers for a full-wall entertainment unit.

    A Multimedia Powerhouse

As connoisseurs of home entertainment, the family wanted a space to host the trifecta of gaming, listening, and viewing. Our acutely eyed designers knew exactly what the job called for, such as tailor-made cubbies for consoles, turntables, and display materials. The power points, for example, were keenly positioned to make plug and play as easy as it sounds.

    Dripping With Atmosphere

From the outset, we aimed to deliver the client’s goal of an atmospheric and immersive space. This involved a rich finish of Dark Oak Puregrain from Melteca. The melamine-on-MDF combo ensured high weight capacity while also facilitating our choice of finish.

    Performance & Utility

On the left, the unit sports an accommodating assortment of adjustable shelving, while the right half features a TV display with purpose-built shelves for consoles and accessories. This side is notable for having slatted acoustic panelling, shared with the backing pattern. We partnered with Profile Panels to deliver this sleek and performant solution. Its Natural Ebony colour is a perfect collaborator for the melamine panels, bringing modernity and dynamism to the aesthetic. Its soundproofing ability boosts the room’s aural performance while also dampening its disruption to other spaces.

    Quality Hardware

The bottom cabinets feature a symmetrical selection of four drawers. Featuring Häfele’s quality hardware, they are a breeze to open and close. Underneath, the toe kick features warm LED lighting from Domus Line, supplied by Fit NZ. It also appears in, and beneath the TV housing, matching ceiling light’s glow on the panel face. This gives a rich, theatrical atmosphere to the room. With room to accommodate even larger TVs, this entertainment unit allows for a veritable home theatre.

Perfectly working with the room’s blackout curtains and soft carpet, our entertainment unit combines for a superbly immersive experience. The closable panels also make it incredibly friendly for the resident feline, being able to close away shelves from the mischief of curious cats.

As a statement piece with incredible presence and function, this unit truly makes for an unparalleled viewing experience.
